Digestive System
What is the Digestive System? It is the body system that is responsible for digesting our foods, gathering nutrients from it, and eventually breaking it down. What are some of the organs of the Digestive System? Mouth. The food is broken down. Pharynx. This five inch tube is a passageway for food and air. Esophagus. This organ is responsible for sending saliva, food, and liquids to the stomach. Stomach. This sac-like organ collects and breaks down food. It contains a juice that helps break down foods. The partly digested food is sent to the small intestine. Small Intestine. The small intestine digests and absorbs undigested food(which comes from the stomach). Large Intestine. The large intestine absorbs and digests water and mineral salts that is in the “food” which comes from the digestive system. Pancreas. The pancreas produces insulin which controls the level of glucose (sugar) in your blood.
How does Type 2 Diabetes Affect the Digestive System? When you have diabetes, you get constipations. This causes problems in your digestion. A symptom of diabetes is thirst, which happens in the mouth, which is a part of the digestive system. Gastroparesis can happen. Gastroparesis is when the stomach takes too long to empty itself. This happens because of nerve damage.
