Circulatory System
What is the circulatory system? It is the body system that is responsible for sending and circulating blood around your body.
What are some organs of the circulatory system? Heart. The heart purifies, provides, circulates, and receives blood. This organ transports blood to other parts of your body through veins, arteries, and capillaries. Lungs. The lungs take in oxygen. This oxygen is put into blood which is circulated around the body through veins, arteries, and capillaries. Blood- There are two types of blood cells, red and white. Red blood cells delivers oxygen. White blood cells fight infection. Blood is responsible for delivering oxygen and nutrients to part of your body and disposing carbon dioxide and other waste. Blood also helps maintain homeostasis. Blood Vessels- There are three types of blood vessels: Arteries, veins, and capillaries. Arteries take blood away from the heart and veins take blood to the heart. Capillaries purify blood. They are very thin. They deliver oxygen and nutrients to cells. They take out carbon dioxide and waste from cells. How is this system affected by Type 2 Diabetes? This system is highly affected by Type 2 Diabetes because the cells of our body became unresponsive to insulin. This causes glucose to build up in our blood streams, veins, and arteries. This causes our blood flow to be affected in a bad way. This change in our blood flow can cause high blood pressure and cholesterol levels which may lead to strokes or heart attacks.
